Purchase Man Charged With DWI After Car Accident

HARRISON, N.Y. - A Purchase man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated last week after Harrison police found him to have fled the scene of an accident, according to police reports.

Harrison police responded to an accident at the intersection of Lake and Barnes Lanes to find the driver involved had already left the scene. After tracing tire tracks caused from the dirt on the road, police found Christopher Andrade, 25, sitting in his car at his 2 Merion Dr. home in Purchase with extensive damage to the rear passenger side.

Andrade said he was driving too fast while making a right turn onto Barnes Lane and lost control, causing his car to spin into a nearby tree. Officers said Andrade also struck a stop sign, two street signs and a Westchester County Airport sign.

Andrade was bleeding from his left hand and had bits of dirt and glass on his forehead and hair when police found him, reports said. Harrison Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene.

Police said Andrade was slurring his speech and appeared unsteady on his feet while swaying from side to side. Upon questioning, Andrade said he consumed three glasses of vodka while at White Plains' Hudson Grill and Black Bear bars, reports said.

Police did not perform field sobriety tests on Andrade as they said he was unsteady and injured from his accident. Andrade was placed under arrest for DWI and was taken to White Plains Hospital for treatment before submitting to a blood test.
