PURCHASE, N.Y. – SUNY-Purchase College is the location for state officials to vote on the fate of Brooklyn’s Long Island College Hospital, it was announced Friday.
Many hospital workers are up in arms about the location of the meeting, saying that holding the meeting in Purchase is an attempt to keep hospital advocates and employees from attending, according to a report by the New York Daily News.
On Thursday, a state Supreme Court judge voided the trustees’ original vote that authorized the hospital to close its doors, the Daily News reported. The judge’s ruling said trustees broke the Open Meetings Law by holding a closed-door meeting Feb. 7 about the hospital without telling attendees why they couldn’t be present for the discussion, according to the report.
The unions at Long Island College Hospital vowed Friday “to send busloads of workers to the meeting of the State University Board of Trustees — set for midday Tuesday at the State College at Purchase,” the Daily News report said.
However, a SUNY spokesman reportedly told the newspaper that SUNY has been open and transparent, and that the Purchase meeting had been planned months in advance.
