PURCHASE, N.Y. – Assistant Prof. Mary Alice Williams of Purchase College, SUNY, will be celebrating on set this weekend as the NBC News’ "Today" Sunday edition marks 25 years on air.

Williams, who teaches journalism at Purchase, co-anchored the show with Garrick Utley from 1989 to 1993.

While at NBC, Williams anchored NBC News Special Reports in addition to “extended coverage of Desert Storm,” Purchase said in a written statement. She was also a “frequent anchor and correspondent for NBC Nightly News, Sunrise, and the weekday Today Show.”

During her 40 years in the industry, she worked for CNN, PBS, the Hallmark Channel, Lifetime Television and the Discovery Health Channel. She also served as a reporter/anchor at WCBS Radio and a writer for "CBS Evening News with Katie Couric."

Purchase College will be represented for the second time this year on "Today." The college “was featured in a major segment on the subject of student loans in a weekday segment of the show” in April.
