HARRISON, N.Y. - Purchase was recognized this week as one of the top-10 wealthy zip codes in America by Bloomberg Businessweek, once again putting the town on the national stage.
In the company of wealthy areas including Palm Beach in Florida and Santa Monica in California, Purchase was ranked eighth out of 10 wealthy zip codes in the country. The site said the hamlet's proximity to New York City and hefty corporate tenants like MasterCard and PepsiCo helped it in its standing.
Purchase's eighth-ranked statistics included a total of 834 households with an average home income of $268,696.
"Many residents work in health care, professional services, and finance and insurance, according to Census Bureau data," the study said. "Elite couples and singles predominate."
The study "looked at all zip codes in the U.S. with more than 100 households and ranked them by the average income and net worth of their households," Bloomberg Businessweek said.
