Purchase Students Honored in Suny-wide Festival

HARRISON, N.Y. - Purchase College film seniors Caleb Foss and Nicole Favale received awards at the SUNY-wide Film Festival sponsored by SUNY Fredonia from Oct. 13 to Oct. 15.

Foss won the grand prize with "Receiver," a film described as a scientific experiment on perception, requiring the viewer's "participation as an active observer," the college said.

Nicole Favale's "A Window into Willard" won honorable mention in the documentary category. Her film peers into the memories of several patients from the historic Willard Asylum for the Insane in Upstate New York.

The films were each student's junior thesis project.

"I was very excited and honored to hear that my film had been awarded at the festival," Favale said. "To have my work recognized, not only by my peers but also industry professionals, is extremely rewarding."

The SUNY-wide Film Festival seeks to showcase the best examples from the field of film and video throughout the SUNY system, where students and faculty are exploring personal visions through time-based image making, according to the university system.

The SWFF provides students with the opportunity to experience the application process and build their portfolios.
