Rogowsky Honored, Receives Harrison Citation

HARRISON, N.Y. – A Harrison political meet-and-greet featured retired County Legislator Martin Rogowsky, who accepted a citation from Mayor/Supervisor Ron Belmont in front of friends and neighbors on Sunday.

"I'm pleased to be the first recipient of a Mayor Belmont proclamation," Rogowsky said. "I have a lot of good friends here and it's been such a privilege to serve this community."

In the presence of his successor County Legislator David Gelfarb (R – District 6), Rogowsky said he was proud of his service and hopeful for the future. Retiring State Sen. Suzi Oppenheimer (D – District 37) spoke fondly of Rogowsky's time in office.

"Marty was just about the hardest worker in the legislature," Oppenheimer said. "He was in there for all of us."

The League of Women Voters of Harrison hosted the political meet and greet at the library Sunday afternoon, hosting members of the Harrison Town Board, including Belmont, Council members Marlane Amelio, Steve Malfitano, Joe Cannella, Town Clerk Jackie Greer and Town Justices Marc Lust and Nelson Canter.

Citing partisanship in government, Rogowsky's closing remarks focused on the League's efforts to get residents out to vote.

"Partisanship in politics is not a good thing and we need the League to encourage more people to vote," Rogowsky said.

County politicians at the event also included Assembly member Robert Castelli (R – District 87) and Rep. Nita Lowey (D – District 18).

Rogowsky served as a county legislator from 1990 to 1993 and was brought back to the position in November 2003 after returning to the board of legislators in May 2002.

He has served on the boards of several local organizations including the Federated Conservationists of Westchester County, the American Cancer Society, the Port Chester Carver Center, the Port Chester/Rye Brook Chamber of Commerce, the American Jewish Committee and the Jewish Community Center of Harrison. He also coached soccer, basketball and softball for the Harrison Recreation Department.
