RYE, N.Y. -- Rye High School was evacuated Friday night following a bomb threat made early in the evening, according to Superintendent of Schools Frank Alvarez.

After Rye City and Westchester County Police investigated the scene, the campus was given the all clear just after 8 p.m.

The scheduled 7 p.m. varsity girls basketball game between the host Garnets and New Rochelle in the Rye Tournament was canceled as a result of the threat.

In a second email to parents shortly before 9 p.m., Alvarez wrote:

"The Rye City Police Department and the Westchester County Police thoroughly examined the High School and Middle School building with the help of bomb-sniffing dogs. They deemed the building was safe at shortly after 8:00 p.m. this evening.    "Our highest priority is the safety of our students, faculty and staff.  We are grateful to the Rye City Police Department and County Police Department for their swift response. An investigation into the source of the threat is now underway,'' Alvarez said.
