HARRISON, N.Y. - Candidates for Harrison's town clerk were only fielded one question in Tuesday night's political forum. That question, however, was appropriate enough to give residents a closer look at Jackie Greer (R) and Frank Corvino (D).
Both candidates were asked what experiences they've had relevant to the office of town clerk.
Greer, 48, said she learned administrative skills while attending Simmons Business School, which landed her jobs working for high-level executives in support positions.
"I have the experience, maturity, dedication and leadership abilities to do the job for the residents of Harrison," Greer said. "The town clerk receives and distributes information. I will work diligently to get that information out to all the residents of Harrison via the Internet and television."
Corvino, 23, spoke of his background in computers and information systems and said a primary goal of his would be to revamp the town's website without spending any taxpayer money. He also said his experience working with special needs children and adults helps qualify him for the clerk's office.
"The primary purpose of the town clerk's office is public service," Corvino said. "While working with special needs adults and children, I'm responsible for their well being as well as the communication between staff workers and parents as to how programs work."
Greer said her resume speaks of her professional experience, making her the more worthy candidate for office.
"I am not just telling you what I can do," Greer said. "I am the only candidate who can tell you what I've already done."
Corvino said that his knowledge of technology would allow him to complete the daily tasks of the town clerk with ease.
"I have the energy, enthusiasm and experience with computers and informational technology to do the job," Corvino said.
