HARRISON, N.Y. - A suicide investigation is underway at St. Vincent's Hospital in Harrison after a female patient died there last weekend.
Nubia Fernandez, 52, hanged herself inside the psychiatric hospital Saturday afternoon, according to the Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office. New York's Office of Mental Health said St. Vincent's must now work to file a mandatory report on the incident.
Though the cause of the incident was unknown, published reports in The Journal News cited St. Vincent's staff citing crews being understaffed resulting in poor patient supervision. The hospital was recorded to have filed for bankruptcy last spring.
St. Vincent's Hospital is owned by St. Joseph's Medical Center, which is based in Yonkers. Located on North Street in downtown Harrison, it was established in 1879 and specializes in mental health.
