Funding for the Public Library Construction Grant Program was included in the 2015-16 state budget for renovations and construction projects to enhance public libraries and library systems.
“Having worked with these libraries in supporting their applications, it is terrific to see our libraries receiving funding to become more energy efficient, environmentally friendly, and technologically capable,” Latimer said.
“Westchester’s libraries should have every opportunity to be world-class, because that is what the public deserves,” said Buchwald.
Facilities funded under the Public Library Construction Grant Program include:
- North Castle Public Library: $46,772 to replace an outdated heating, ventiliation and air-conditioning system, as well as old, drafty doors. Funding also provides for three ceiling fans and other interior renovations to increase programming and quiet study space.
- Harrison Public Library: $32,438 to transform the Community Room that will provide comprehensive library services for the 21st century.
- Harrison Public Library, West Harrison branch: $26,500 to replace the old entrance doors with energy-efficient, ADA compliant units to improve energy efficiency and accessibility.
- Katonah Village Library: $11,950 to replace old shingles on the structure’s roof, as well as improve the front portico’s gutters and downspout. The ceiling directly under the roof will also be renovated.
Harrison Public Library Board President David Donelson said: “We would not be able to complete the renovation projects for both the West Harrison and the Richard E. Halprin Building without the support of Assemblyman Buchwald and Senator Latimer. The state grants filled an important gap in our funding and allowed us to leverage the town and private contributions we received.”
North Castle Public Library Board President Sean Ryan said: “Our state is supporting our libraries and the ability to enhance our facilities to better support customers. This grant helps North Castle Public Library replace aging infrastructure, improve energy efficiency and enhance the usability of our Armonk facility to better serve our community. I very much appreciate the advocacy and hard work of both Assemblyman Buchwald and Sen. Latimer.”
