Outdoor air quality levels are predicted to be greater than an air quality index, or AQI, value of 100 for ozone. The AQI was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale -- the higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern.

When pollution levels are elevated, the state Department of Health recommends that people consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activitiy to reduce the risk of adverse health effects.

People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated pollutants include the very young and those with respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms are advised to consult a doctor.

State residents can keep informed about air quality by calling 800-534-1345.

The National Weather Service forecast for Westchester call for hot and sunny conditions Wednesday with a high about 90. Wednesday night will be mostly clear with a low around 68. Thursday will be sunny with a high of 89. Thursday night brings the possibility of showers and thunderstorms with a low of 69.
