State To Close I-84 Lanes For Construction

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Motorists traveling along Interstate 84 in Putnam County can expect some lane closures and delays this September as construction crews tend to the road.

The state Department of Transportation will close the left lanes of I-84 in both directions near the Putnam-Connecticut border between Aug. 30 and Sept. 17 for road construction.

The New York State Department of Transportation will close both left lanes heading eastbound and westbound on I-84 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Sunday, Aug. 30 and Thursday, Sept. 17, weather permitting.

The eastbound closure will be from the Connecticut state line and Exit 21. Westbound motorists can expect a left-lane closure between Exit 19 and the Connecticut state line. There will be no lane closures during Labor Day weekend.

The state department of transportation reminds drivers to be mindful of their surroundings and that speeding fines are doubled in work zones. Multiple offenses could result in a suspended license.
