WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. — A recently released Gallup poll found that 24.9 percent of New York residents were considered obese in 2012.

The national obesity rate was 26.2 percent, almost the same as 2011's rate of 26.1 percent, the statistics said.  All but four states nationwide remained at the same percentage as well.  New York did not make the top 10 most or least obese states, according to the study.

The data was collected as part of the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, using peoples responses to height and weight to figure out body mass index, the article said. The statistics have been tracked since 2008 by Gallup and Healthways, the article said.

Very tricky how you captured the information you thought would sensationalize and grab attention. The study reveals so much more that Anthony chose to ignore. Plus, the poll does not list where NY or NYers might fare to the rest of the country. That said, who cares? If you were writing for real, and not in sound bite form, you could have reached out to the Westchester County AND NYS Health departments for more accurate and less generic information. But, this is FNN (Feiner Network News), where truth, justice and the American way are just words.

Slow news day?

I love how the news is quick to isolate obese people and shame them with these stats. How about how many smokers in NY? Alcoholics? Drug abusers? Anorexic people? It does nothing but causes more school bullying, work bullying, stigmitizing people who have the same problem as smokers, alcoholics, etc - they have an addiction. (Or sucky genes/thyroid problem/medicine side effects.) What about my aunt who was hit by a drunk driver and couldn't walk properly and was on meds that made her gain weight?

Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox, but it just pisses me off as someone who struggled with their weight for years and had my self esteem shattered by skinny jerks everywhere.

Now go find some real news.

Typical human BS. You look different? Well, you're an enemy. The reason why the media doesn't go after smokers/drinkers/other addictions is because you can't really tell just by looking at someone that they have a problem. Extra weight? Well you belong in the sub-human group over here, because you're not like US.

I asked every parent that drinks or allows 16 oz. size drinks to look at the label t(soda bottle) to see how many Ounces of sugar are in the drink.
Next measure out that amount of sugar, put it on small plate with a spoon, and eat it. Also ask any children you allow to have those size drinks do the same.
I bet you will not even try it with 20 oz. or bigger.
