The Week Ahead in Harrison

HARRISON, N.Y. – A meeting of the Harrison Central School District Board of Education on Wednesday, March 7 highlights the week ahead in Harrison. One of the items to be discussed is the upcoming budget for the next school year.

Here’s a list of some more events:

Monday, March 5

- Theater Arts rehearsals will be held at Samuel J. Preston Elementary School from 3:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

- Manhattanville College will host responders to the Fukushima nuclear emergency in Japan to give a first-hand account. In addition, a panel of U.S. experts will connect the crisis to the local nuclear power plant, Indian Point. Tuesday, March 6

- Parents can register their children whose first initial of their last name begins with ‘A’ through ‘L’ for kindergarten at each of the four elementary schools between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at their respective school buildings.

- A sixth grade informational meeting will be held at 7:15 p.m. at Louis M. Klein Middle School (LMK).

- SUNY Purchase will host Israeli filmmaker Avner Faingulernt at 6 p.m. in the Humanities Theater. Faingulernt’s work explores the interactions of Israelis and Palestinians who live on the border between Gaza and Israel. Wednesday, March 7

- Parents can register their children whose first initial of their last name begins with ‘M’ through ‘Z’ for kindergarten at each of the four elementary schools between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at their respective school buildings.

- A PTA meeting will be held at Purchase Elementary School at 9:15 a.m.

- Harrison High School will host International Baccalaureate Information Night for parents of eighth grade and ninth grade students beginning at 7 p.m.

- The Harrison Public Library will host a piano duo extravaganza featuring Svitlana Syrtsova and Sergey Krivonos. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

- The Harrison Central School District Board of Education will meet at 7:15 p.m. at Louis M. Klein Middle School. The public portion of the meeting begins at 8:15 p.m.

Thursday, March 8

- A fourth grade debut concert will be held at Purchase Elementary School at 10 a.m.

- The Harrison Public Library will be teaching a class about how to download e-books and audio books at 1:30 p.m.

- SUNY Purchase will host Vivian Gornick, a feminist writer, for International Women’s Day. The event runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Neuberger Museum Study.

- A PTA meeting will be held at Parsons Memorial School at 7:30 p.m.

Friday, March 9

- This is the last day that high school students can register to take the ACT exam.

Saturday, March 10

- Harrison Avenue School students will perform “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” The first performance is at 11 a.m. The second performance will begin at 2 p.m.

Sunday, March 11

- Harrison Avenue School students will perform “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” The first performance is at 11 a.m. The second performance will begin at 2 p.m.
