- Harrison High School's production of "Crazy For You" won Outstanding Overall Production at the 2013 Metropolitan High School Theater Awards. The show also won for Outstanding Choreography and Outstanding Musical Direction.
- Purchase College received a $10,000 grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The money will be used to support the Minority and Women in the Film Industry screening and lecture series.
- Tropical Storm Andrea hit the area Friday, causing rain and flash flood warnings. Andrea is the first storm of the 2013 hurricane season, which the National Weather Service is predicting will be "extremely active."
