Valiants' von Sydow, Rivera Earn Ecac Honors

HARRISON, N.Y. -- On the strength of helping to lift the Manhattanville men's hockey team to an upset victory over No. 8 Utica on Friday night, senior Marcus von Sydow (Stockholm, Sweden) and freshman Mark Rivera (Belmar, N.J.) were honored by the ECAC West Conference as its Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, Monday.

von Sydow played a vital role in Manhattanville's 6-3 triumph over the eighth-ranked Pioneers on Friday night at Playland Ice Casino, recording the first multi-goal game of his career with a pair of first-period goals. The senior blue liner has two goals and one assist for three points so far this season, and for his career has found the net five times and assisted on 22 more for 27 career points.

Rivera also earned the first conference honor of his career by scoring once in Friday's Valiants' victory. The freshman forward netted the first goal of his career in the second period, and the tally proved to be the eventual game-winner in Manhattanville's second win over a nationally ranked team this season.

In addition, senior goalie Pierre-Olivier Lemieux (Rimouski, Que. Canada) was named to the ECAC West weekly honor roll after turning aside 25 of 28 shots in the victory over Utica on Friday night, making 13 saves in the first two periods.

Manhattanville (2-3-1, 2-2-0 ECAC West) is back in action Tuesday (tonight), as the Valiants travel to Connecticut College for a 7 p.m. non-conference match up. The game will be audio streamed on WMVL 88.1 FM beginning at approximately 6:50 p.m.
