Sprain Ridge Pool was closed by County Executive Rob Astorino in 2011 due to chronic leaks, despite having been a very popular a summer destination for Yonkers and Greenburgh residents. Sprain Ridge Pool, along with the pool at Playland, are the only two county pools suitable for competitive swimming.
“I am happy that we are finally taking action to fix the Sprain Ridge Pool. As we sweat out another sweltering summer in Westchester County, this fantastic county asset languishes for the fifth straight summer.” said Legislator Gordon Burrows of Yonkers. "I look forward to seeing this vital resource returned to its former glory. This Bond Act will ensure that Sprain Ridge Pool remains a wonderful resource for Westchester residents for decades to come.”
Legislator Bernice Spreckman, also from Yonkers, who has also been a vocal advocate for the restoration of the pool said, “Many families in my District do not have the resources for frequent vacations or memberships at private pools and clubs. This pool provides a wonderful way to cool off, relax and meet friends and family."
Much of the design work for the pool has already been completed. The pool is expected to be open again in 2017.
