HARRISON, N.Y. - Students at SUNY Purchase had an unexpected day off from classes Friday, thanks to the dire warnings about winter storm Nemo.

The official announcement was made late Thursday night that classes would be canceled at SUNY Purchase.

"I think we probably could have had classes, because it just seems like normal, average snow," Becca Strassberg, a senior at Purchase said Friday. "I definitely screamed in happiness that they were canceled, though. It's crazy that people are still planning shows and things to go on tonight. It's supposed to get a lot worse.”

The library, gym and some dining facilities remained open, but with limited hours.

The free shuttle that usually runs to Port Chester and White Plains was canceled from noon on. Some evening shows at the Performing Arts Center on Saturday were also canceled.

Senior Celia Brisson said she was happy that classes were canceled. “When I woke up this morning there was already so much snow,” Brisson said. “Snow days are always exciting as long as you don’t have to drive. My friends and I are stocking up on food and hot chocolate.”

“It looks like facilities is doing a decent job of trying to contain the amount of snow on the roads,” student Michael Moore said.

Moore still had responsibilities despite the snow. “The weather isn't canceling baseball practice though, believe or not.”
