WEST HARRISON, N.Y. – Benedetto Colella of West Harrison died Thursday, Aug. 2. He was 85.
He was born Sept. 1, 1926, in Corato, Italy, to Francesco and Anna Maria DiGennaro Colella. Nicknamed "Benny," Colella served in the Italian army and married Maria Sforza on Oct. 11, 1958. They lived in Venezuela for two years before immigrating to the U.S. He worked as a self-employed painter.
Colella is survived by two sons, Franco Colella of Lamoine, Maine, and Charlie Colella of White Plains; a daughter, Anna Angilletta of New Canaan, Conn.; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother and three sisters.
Visiting hours were held Sunday at McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home in White Plains. A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday morning at St. Anthony of Padua Church in West Harrison.
