Dorothy Cairo, Former Port Chester Resident, 86

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Dorothy Cairo, a former Port Chester and Rye Brook resident, died in her East Haven, Conn., home of bone cancer, at age 86.

Cairo, known as Dot, was born on June 19, 1928, in West Haven, Conn., to the Alessandro (Alex) and Jennie (Giorgi) Franceschini.

When Cairo was 3 years old, her family moved to Port Chester. She graduated from Port Chester High School and worked for Russell Burdsall and Ward for a few years before she married Ernest Louis Cairo in 1950.

They were married 44 years and raised their family in Rye Brook. She worked at United Hospital in Port Chester after her children were grown.

Cairo belonged to The Greenwich Garden Club; The Port Chester Woman's Club and was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church.

Cairo was known for her gracious entertaining, dinner parties and loved to dance and travel with her husband. 

She was predeceased by her husband. 

She is survived by three daughters,  Lisa Archer of North Palm Beach, Fla., Marcia (and Lawrence) Dunbar of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Lori and Michael) Vogt of East Haven, Conn.; two grandchildren; Jason (and Marietta) Goldman of Miami, Fla., and Marissa (and Shawn ) Vasquez of Juno Beach, Fla., and three great grandchildren; Samantha and Jordan Goldman and Kollin Fagan.

A private memorial dinner was held on Monday, Oct. 27.
