Harrison Native Ed 'Biggie' Moran, 87, Dutchess Sports Hall-Of-Famer

HYDE PARK, N.Y. – Ed "Biggie" Moran, of Hyde Park, died on Monday, Nov. 16. He was 87.

Moran was born on June 4, 1928 in Harrison to James and Geraldine Smith Moran.

He played baseball throughout the 1940s, before, during and after his Navy service in the Korean War, being inducted into the Dutchess County Sports Hall of Fame in 1985.

Moran worked at IBM for 30 years in Quality Control, retiring in 1985.

He was was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, James, Richard, and Raymond; and sister Adelaide Decker.

Moran is survived by his wife Marilyn, five children, Mark and his wife Donna, Monica McCartin and her husband John, Matthew and wife Lisa, MauraLyn Recchia and husband Rick, and Michael, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert and Joseph; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Sweet's Funeral Home, located along Route 9 in Hyde Park.

A mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of Saint Peter's Parish, located at 185 Hudson View Drive in Poughkeepsie.

Interment with military honors will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery.
