HARRISON, N.Y. Robert E. Huber, a former postal worker in Harrison, died Oct. 1. He was 86.
He was born Nov. 6, 1925, in Harrison to John and Margaret Staples Huber. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service, mainly in Harrison, for more than 30 years.
Most recently of Bethel, Conn., Huber retired as postmaster in Newtown, Conn. After retiring, he volunteered at Danbury Hospital, Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care in Danbury and the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth in Monroe, Conn.
Huber is survived by his wife, Eileen; three children, Gail (Stephen) Byrwa, of Pleasantville, N.Y., Lora (Steve) Branson, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Joan (Lou) Bordo, of Hilliard, Ohio; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jack and Walter.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Green Funeral Home in Danbury, Conn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Danbury, Conn. Burial will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye.
