Robert J. Deierlein, 86, Of West Harrison, Trucking Company Executive

WEST HARRISON, N.Y. - Robert J Deierlein of West Harrison died Sept. 1. He was 86.

Deierlein was born in 1928, to Charles Richard and Loretta (Ecay) Deierlein, and grew up in Pelham. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and graduated from Iona College in 1952.

He was an executive for a trucking company for 22 years and then a writer and consultant for the industry for 38 years. He was on the Board of Directors of Safe Shops Tools Inc. Missoula, Mont. He served as chairman of the citizens committee for Water District #1 for 35 years and was a commentator at St. Anthony’s church in West Harrison for 38 years.

Deierlein is survived by his wife, Katherine; children, Mary (Ken) Fitzpatrick of Ridgefield, Conn., Charles (Jean) of San Diego, Robert (Sarah) of Missoula, Mont., Rita Ball of Oak Hill, Va., Susan of San Diego, Jeanne (Jeff) Tepper of Brewster, Kathleen (Kevin) Santoro of Ridgefield, Conn., Thomas (Mary) Beth of Garden City, William (Andrea) of White Plains; and 12 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Edwin, Richard, and Charles.  

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at St Anthony’s in West Harrison, with burial in Gate of Heaven cemetery.
