PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - The following letter was submitted and written in its entirety by Peter Green.
Democrat Dan Brakewood is seeking the seat for county legislator of District 6. He is running against Republican and Conservative candidate Dan Gelfarb in the Nov. 8 general election. District 6 represents Harrison, Rye and Port Chester on the county board of legislators.
In my opinion, our county government is non-functional. County Executive Rob Astorino wants to employ the "blunt ax" approach to cutting services and the board of legislators over-rides every veto that Astorino proposes. The result is a standstill, with our elected officials getting little done. Our county government, which spends nearly $2 billion of our tax money, is no longer working for the good of the residents. The question is not whether we need to change, but who is most likely to actually deliver the changes we need.
District 6 Board of Legislators Candidate Dan Brakewood serves on the Port Chester board of trustees, a highly contentious board that conducts five-plus hour meetings at least three times a month. During Dan's five years on the board, Port Chester trustees have faced a variety of difficult issues, including a federal voting rights case, a revamp of code enforcement, public safety concerns, the elimination of patronage positions, and the scaling back of construction at the Horton School and village hall. Dan's efforts to turn around the Port Chester Board of Trustees have not gone unnoticed by voters. A cross section of Democrats, Republicans and unaffiliated voters re-elected him to the Board in 2010.
I truly believe that Dan Brakewood has the right combination of vision and experience to actually get the job done. He has the skills and understanding needed to move our partisan county executive and the board of legislators towards consensus on important issues. Dan has not only survived but thrived as a Trustee, and has pitched some very bold, non-partisan ideas to reshape our county government. Please join with me and vote for Dan Brakewood on Nov. 8.
