Letter: Gelfarb a 'Proven Tax Cutter'

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - The following letter was sent to Harrison reporter Phil Corso detailing why Republican and Conservative candidate David Gelfarb would be a suitable county legislator for District 6. Gelfarb will run for the position in November's general election against Dan Brakewood (D).

District 6 represents Harrison, Rye and Port Chester on the county Board of Legislators.

I am writing to express my strong support to elect David Gelfarb to be the next county legislator representing Port Chester, Rye Brook and Harrison.

I see that Gelfarb's opponent does not have a record cutting taxes or spending at all.

In fact during Brakewood's tenure as trustee, spending in Port Chester rose 11 percent; the tax levy increased 12 percent; and the village debt rose 47 percent. All of this occurred with Dan Brakewood's full support.

Brakewood has yet to vote for a tax or spending decrease. Now he wants to go to the county legislature to do the same thing. I don't think so.

The contrast between David Gelfarb and Dan Brakewood is startling. For me the choice is very clear why we need to support Gelfarb - both as an accomplished tax cutter and government reformer - based on his record as a Rye town councilman:

- He voted to cut the town tax levy by over 50 percent over his time in office.

- He voted to reduce the town budget by over $1 million.

- He increased the town fund balance by 22 percent.

As a Port Chester property tax payer, I can't afford Brakewood as a trustee. We certainly can't afford to have Brakewood as a county legislator, where the current majority has contributed to making us the most highly taxed county in the nation.

Vote for the proven tax cutter for County Legislator on Nov. 8. Vote for David Gelfarb.
