HARRISON, N.Y. - The following letter was sent to Harrison reporter Phil Corso detailing why Republican and Conservative candidate David Gelfarb would be a suitable county legislator for District 6. Gelfarb will run for the position in November's general election against Dan Brakewood (D).
District 6 represents Harrison, Rye and Port Chester on the county Board of Legislators.
Here I am struggling to make ends meet and the Westchester County Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) is fighting County Executive Astorinos plan to have county workers pay a fair share of health benefits.
Westchester County taxpayers pick up 100 percent of the cost of the countys $100 million a year health care bill.
In the real world, a private sector employee pays 20 percent of the health costs for an individual plan and a 31 percent for a family plan. Even other public sector employees pay 12 percent for an individual plan and 29 percent for a family plan. It is unconscionable that a Westchester County employee pays zero percent for either an individual or a family plan. It is not fair that I subsidize 100 percent of the health insurance for a Westchester County employee.
I know where county legislator candidate David Gelfarb stands on this issue. He believes that county workers should pay their fair share of their health costs.
His opponent, Dan Brakewood, is endorsed by the CSEA labor union.
As a town councilman, David Gelfarb has voted to cut the town tax levy by 50 percent. He has cut $1 million from the Town budget and increased the Town fund balance by over 20 percent. We need him to apply the same approach to Westchester County government.
I trust David Gelfarb to represent Port Chester, Harrison, and Rye Brook as our next County Legislator. Vote Gelfarb on Nov. 8.
