PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - The following letter was sent to Harrison reporter Phil Corso detailing why Republican and Conservative candidate David Gelfarb would be a suitable county legislator for District 6. Gelfarb will run for the position in Tuesday's general election against Dan Brakewood (D).
I understand that Dan Brakewood has some enthusiastic supporters, but in the process of turning out letters to endorse him they are painting a picture of a candidate who is desperately trying (unsuccessfully, I might add) to get some distance from the man who tells all legislators in his caucus what to do County Legislative Majority Leader Ken Jenkins from Yonkers.
It is true that Mr. Brakewood has taken Ken Jenkins' vendetta against County Executive Rob Astorino's leadership to new heights by demanding to abolish Mr. Astorino's job and giving to the legislature (i.e. Mr. Jenkins) the power to appoint someone to run the County. Really now, this is a bit too much. Mr. Jenkins is afraid of losing his super majority if Mr. Brakewood doesn't win the election, and loses to Rye Town Councilman David Gelfarb.
I'll give Mr. Brakewood credit for wanting to make Playland profitable, a position already proposed by County Legislature candidate David Gelfarb. This is the Astorino position, being fought every day by Ken Jenkins and his crew. We can appreciate why Mr. Brakewood and his followers would want to escape from the clutches of Mr. Jenkins. An argument can be made that retiring County Legislator Marty Rogowsky is quitting for the same reason.
But the solution to this dilemma is NOT to vote for Mr. Brakewood. It is to vote for David Gelfarb and break Mr. Jenkins' super majority in the County Legislature.
