Elderly Port Chester Man Hit, Killed By Car Near Westchester Border

GREENWICH, Conn. -- A Port Chester man in his 80s was struck and killed while crossing the street in Greenwich Monday night, according to police.

The man was crossing West Putnam Avenue at the intersection with Western Junior Highway at around 6:30 p.m. when he was hit by a car and suffered serious injuries, police said. He later died at Greenwich Hospital, according to police.

The driver of the car immediately stopped and rendered aid to the pedestrian, along with a witness to the incident, police said.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Traffic Section of the Greenwich Police Department. Police said the pedestrian's name is being withheld pending notification of the family.
