The Department should be commended for their commitment to excellence. The dinner, following the inspection, was wonderful and I would like to congratulate the entire Department for their accomplishments. It was a memorable evening and an honor to be included.
I would like to take this time to recognize the Harrison Girl Scouts. The Scouts held their annual food drive at DeCicco’s supermarket and all donations were collected to assist the Harrison Food Pantry.
Troops that participated in collecting donations are: Troop 1880 (Leaders Jessie Arias and Monica Muir), Troop 1891 (Leader Christina Frohlich), Troop 1896 (Leader Anna Catanzariti), Troop 1897 (Leader Dawn Drace), Troop 2374 (Leaders Jen Maurer and Debbie DiFiore), Troop 2376 (Leaders Debbie Levine and Lindsey Helmer) and Troop 2468 (Leader Veronika Frohlich). Thank you to all the Scouts and Leaders for their continuing support of this very worthwhile cause.
It’s that time of year again and Harrison will be celebrating Halloween with the return of two favorite events. All residents are invited, free of charge, to dress up and march in the Halloween parades.
In West Harrison, the parade will begin at the Firehouse Thursday, Oct. 29, 3:30 p.m. line-up 4 p.m. start. The Downtown parade will begin at Parsons School on Thursday, Oct. 29, 5:30 p.m. line-up, 6 p.m. start.
Through Saturday, Oct. 31, the, the Haunted House at the Mintzer Center will be in full swing from 6:30 to 10 p.m. I encourage everyone, young and old, to join in the holiday fun.
The Harrison League of Women Voters has announced this year’s Town/Village of Harrison Candidates’ Forum. On Monday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m., the Harrison candidates will be convening at the Veteran’s Memorial Building, at 210 Halstead Ave. to meet voters and discuss current issues facing the town.

In closing, it is with great sadness that I bring your attention to the passing of former Councilman Pat Vetere. Pat's commitment and dedication to the Town and Village of Harrison was reflected in his years of service to our community. He was appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals and served for 5 years. Subsequently, he was elected and served as a Councilman/Trustee, on the Harrison Town Board, for 24 years. He was a colleague, and a friend to many, and will be greatly missed.
