I am happy to report that the Harrison Police Department recently added five new police officers. The swearing-in ceremony took place at Town Hall on June 24 and was attended by fellow officers, family members, town personnel and members of the greater Harrison community. Congratulations to newly appointed Matias Alves, Nicholas Gazzola, Richard Light, Christopher Pascale and Joseph DeFonce.

Summer concerts

It’s time once again to get ready for Harrison’s summer concert series. This annual event is always enjoyed by many Harrison residents and guests.

July events include musical entertainment by Back to the Garden 1969, Rat Race Choir, Jackie DiMaggio, Alive and Kickin, The Hindenberg and the Tracey Delucia Band. All concerts begin at 7 p.m. Visit our website for the schedule or call 670-3039 for event locations and additional information.

Water usage

In anticipation of increased water usage due to seasonal lawn irrigation systems, it is advisable that residents locate and repair leaks in homes, offices, buildings and irrigation systems. Leaks account for a vast amount of wasted water each year. Leaking toilet flappers, dripping faucets and leaky valves are very common but are easy to correct. In addition to conserving water, these repairs can substantially reduce homeowners' water bills

Sanitation and building

The town/village of Harrison recently appointed a constable in an effort to enforce the town code as it relates to sanitation and buildings. Compliance with our code helps to preserve and maintain an attractive appearance. The town’s objective is to clean up our neighborhoods, elevate the surrounding areas and otherwise keep Harrison looking its best.

Garbage and recycling

Garbage and recycling normally collected Monday, July 4, will be picked up Tuesday, July 5. Garbage and recycling normally collected Tuesday, July 5 will be picked up Wednesday, July 6. There will be no bulk trash pickup Wednesday, July 6.

In closing, I would like to recognize our local high school graduates. It was wonderful to see excited students and their proud parents at this very moving event.
