“We have in our midst a leader who has extended himself professionally and personally to every principal,” said Schools Superintendent Louis N. Wool.
Wool was joined during a ceremony honoring Marraccini by Board of Education President Abby Mendelsohn.
“He has toured every one of our buildings with us and he has participated in our planning process,'' Wool said. "We think that much of the success we have had in collaborating with our Police Department in these very trying times in public schools is because of the leadership of the chief of police.”
Wool spoke about a recent incident involving a faulty fire alarm at Louis M. Klein Middle School during a torrential rainstorm where students and teachers had to be evacuated safely and expeditiously to Harrison Avenue Elementary school.
“Before I could request assistance, there were already seven police officers working seamlessly with our faculty to ensure the safety of our students,'' Wool said.
Marraccini graciously accepted the recognition on behalf of the entire Harrison Police Department.
“This is really for the men and women of the Harrison Police Department that are in those dangerous situations keeping our kids safe and keeping our community safe,” Marraccini said. “I believe part of the success the Police Department has with the school district is that Dr. Wool and I share common values. We believe in excellence and we believe in taking care of our kids and doing everything we possibly can to achieve those goals.”
Chief Marraccini recently was honored by the New York State Shields Inc., also known as “The Shields,” with the Capt. Terrance Tunnock Boss of the Year award as reported here by the Daily Voice
He has served more than 30 years as a police officer in the Harrison Police Department and the Harrison community.
