Man Sentenced In Oxycodone Trafficking Ring In Westchester County

STAMFORD, Conn. -- A Florida man has been sentenced to 27 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for participating in an oxycodone trafficking ring that distributed the drug in Fairfield and Westchester counties.

Wilner "Castro" Castelin, 44, was found guilty in May of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute oxycodone, and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, according to a release.

Castelin was arrested in September 2011 as part of "Operation Blue Coast.

The investigation revealed that an individual regularly purchased oxycodone from suppliers in Florida, transported the oxycodone to Connecticut by commercial airline or automobile, and sold the pills for profit to various Connecticut-based narcotics dealers. He then transported the proceeds of his oxycodone sales from Connecticut to Florida, either by having a courier drive the money or by using commercial airline flights, according to the release.

Castelin was reportedly paid approximately $1,000 to $1,250 for each trip.

Twenty individuals, including two law enforcement officers and three U.S. Transportation Security Agency officers, have been charged as a result of this investigation.

Connecticut State Police from Norwalk, Stamford and Westport as well as U.S. marshals from Greenwich and Danbury helped in the investigation.
