Man Shot, Killed As Shots Ring Out In Yonkers

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - Police in Yonkers are investigating a fatal Warburton Avenue shooting.

Police were dispatched to the front of a Warburton Avenue building at shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday night, where there were reports of multiple gunshots being fired, Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said on Wednesday morning.

Upon arrival, Politopoulos said that they located a 29-year-old man from Yonkers, who had a non-life threatening graze wound to his leg. While investigating, responding officers were told of a second victim who had been transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his torso. The 26-year-old Yonkers resident was subsequently pronounced dead from his injuries.

Detectives from the Major Case and Crime Scene Unit cordoned off the area and interviewed subjects, canvassed for witnessed, reviewed surveillance video and processed both forensic and ballistic evidence.

According to police, the preliminary investigation has determined that several people - including the victims - were loitering int he area when two suspects approached them and shot at the group several times, striking the two victims and the vehicles parked next to them. The two suspects then fled the scene as police were called.

Politopoulos said that detectives are actively investigating the incident and following up on leads. It is believed that the group of people and victims were allegedly targeted. The man’s name has not been released as police notify their family. No additional information is currently available.
