In June, Norwalk Police raided the “Casino Royal,” an illegal poker ring operating at 94 East Ave. Six people were arrested and charged with running the operation at the time, while 27 more were deemed just customers and set free, according to police reports.
Jeremiah McKenna, 37, of 85 East Ave., was not in the building at the time of the raid but was seen there during surveillance operations earlier, said Lt. Jim Walsh, head of the Special Services Division. Investigators also found that McKenna paid the monthly rent on the casino’s operating space and supplied refreshments for each event, he said.
McKenna also listed the 94 East Ave. address on his driver’s license, despite living down the street, according to police reports. Walsh called McKenna “the brains behind the operation” Friday morning.
Norwalk Police notified McKenna of a warrant for his arrest Thursday, and he turned himself in that evening. “At this point this investigation is now closed,” Walsh said Friday.
McKenna was charged with gambling, managing a gambling premises and two counts of conspiracy Thursday. He was held on $20,000 bond and is due in court on Aug. 23.
