Police said a 6-foot-tall white male wearing a black winter hat and full-length trench coat walked into TD Bank at 38 Purchase St. at about 12:43 p.m. Sunday.
The suspect handed a teller a typed note demanding cash, police said.
The robber left the bank and walked into an adjoining municipal parking lot where a dye packet was activated, police said.
Police said witnesses observed a white male shaking out his clothes in the parking lot. The clothes were covered in "red powder,'' they told police.
Witnesses also said the man drove away in an older model four-door sedan with a lot of rust on it. Rye Police ask anyone with information to call the Detective Division at 914-967-1234.
Sunday's robbery occurred less than a block from a Sept. 25, 2014, robbery at Webster Bank, 72 Purchase St., in which a red dye packet exploded on a bagful of cash in a municipal parking lot behind the bank.
A 26-year-old suspect in that robbery dropped the bag of cash and was arrested Oct. 1 in Bridgeport, Conn.
