Investigators searched a wooded area off Route 6, some of whom were wearing plastic gloves and placing an unidentified object, possibly a murder weapon.
The Yorktown Police Department said during the search that residents should not be alarmed, but have not yet disclosed the reason for the enhanced presence of state and local police in the area.
"Police on scene are not searching for anyone," the Yorktown Police said in a statement. "No one is in any danger at this time. This will be an ongoing investigation throughout the day. This is as specific as we can be."
Earlier in the day, the body of a man found dead in a car in the parking lot of a social center in West Harrison was also linked to the murder of Perla Gatchalian in Mahopac, located in the Town of Carmel, last Thursday. He died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to authorities.
The body, which was removed by the Westchester County Medical Examiner around 12:30 p.m., was located less than a block away from 106 Park Ave., the home of Filippo and Maria Buffone, who were reportedly related to Gatchalian.
Gatchalian lived with another branch of the Buffone family in Mahopac, police said.
Carmel Police will be hosting a press conference on the latest developments is scheduled for Wednesday in Carmel.
