The bus stopped in a construction zone on the median of northbound I-95 just before Exit 14 at about 10 p.m. after the man stabbed another man and a woman on the bus, State Police said in a statement.

Several 911 calls from the bus reported the disturbance. Troopers on patrol and working in that area were advised of the report.

The trooper working at the construction zone was aware of the reports and approached the bus.

The trooper encountered the suspect, who was armed with a cutting instrument and injuring himself, State Police said. The suspect then began to act aggressively toward the trooper and refused an order to drop the weapon, state police said. The suspect advanced toward the trooper in an aggressive manner with the cutting instrument, forcing the trooper to discharge his duty weapon, striking the suspect, state police said.

The suspect received emergency care at the scene and, in addition, passengers on the bus who were also injured by the suspect were provided emergency care. Several ambulances were requested to respond and all were transported by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital.

The trooper was not injured.

The crime scene was secured and I-95 northbound was closed to traffic for the investigation. The State Police Central District Major Crime Squad was assigned to conduct the investigation, assisted by the State’s Attorney's Office.

All of the other passengers were taken off the bus and transported to the Norwalk Police Department to be interviewed by officers.

Norwalk police said that an editor for The Hour was arrested at the Norwalk Fire Department on Connecticut Avenue following the incident. Police said that members of the press were congregating in the parking lot of the fire station, where state police were stationed. Police said that officers got on the P.A. system to tell members of the press to leave but Jeffrey Dale, 27, a news editor for The Hour, refused to leave.

Police said they told Dale to leave three times before he started walking on Connecticut Avenue toward Cedar Street. Norwalk police said Dale then came to the perimeter of the fire station and started yelling obscenities at the officers, causing a disturbance. Police then placed Dale under arrest and charged him with breach of peace and interfering with an officer. While en route to Norwalk Police headquarters, police said Dale told them he was a reporter with The Hour and apologized. He was given a $250 bond and a court date of Oct. 31.

I-95 remained closed until about 5:30 a.m. due to the police investigation but reopened in time for the Wednesday morning rush hour.

The State Police investigation is continuing.

The coach bus is from Dahlia Travel & Tours in Flushing, N.Y. It was heading from Chinatown to a Connecticut casino.
