New York State Police officers were dispatched to the Shell gas station on Route 22 in North Salem on Wednesday after a domestic dispute was reported by the station’s attendant.

Police said that the investigation determined that 17-year-old Alejandro Sanchez picked up his victim in Southeast and a domestic dispute ensued in the vehicle. When his victim attempted to call 911 for assistance, Sanchez allegedly took the phone to prevent police intervention.

The victim was able to escape the vehicle and ran to the nearest gas station to alert the attendant, police said. Sanchez then fled with the phone, but was later tracked down and arrested.

Sanchez was charged with a felony count of grand larceny, as well as unlawful imprisonment, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal mischief, all misdemeanors. Following arraignment, Sanchez was remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $500 bail. He is due back in the Town of Southeast Court later this year to answer the charges.
