The Wall Street Journal looked into Astorino's proposal, which would give a 40-year lease to a private operator to run the airport. Bids are due July 14 and the winning bid must be approved by a supermajority of the Board of Legislators.

Astorino has said privatizing the airport would provide a revenue stream for the county and improve airport operations.

Citizens for a Responsible County Airport has opposed the plan, saying it would increase air traffic and could lead to environmental concerns like polluting the Kensico Reservoir.

The county has said air traffic would not increase, and they would keep in place its rule that a maximum of 240 passengers for every 30 minutes.
