Back to Vote

Latimer (D-Rye) and Cohen (R-New Rochelle) are running for the seat of retiring state Sen. Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Mamaroneck). Cohen is making a second run for the seat, after losing to Oppenheimer  by a few hundred votes in 2010.

The hotly contested race is viewed as pivotal in deciding which party controls the state Senate in the next legislative session.

Cohen is a real estate businessman and former member of Scarsdale’s volunteer fire department. Latimer, who is ending his term as District 91 Assembly member, formerly served as chairman of the Westchester County Board of Legislators.

The 37th encompasses Rye, Harrison, Mamaroneck, New Castle, New Rochelle, Scarsdale and White Plains.

League of Women Voters of Bedford, Lewisboro, North Salem candidate’s forum held on Oct. 22 at the Bedford Hills Community House.

Rye Brook debate held on Oct. 23 at 800 Westchester Avenue and moderated by Steve Scott of WCBS Radio, who said of the race,  “It is not hyperbole to say this race in the 37th District may, indeed, decide the balance of power in the New York State Senate.”

A ruling by the Westchester County Fair Campaign Practices Committee on Oct. 17, that deemed it OK for a mailer titled “The Truth About Bob Cohen” to call Cohen a slumlord, based on past documentation of suits brought by New York City since the late 1990s over conditions and activities in New York City buildings owned by Cohen.

Another ruling by the Westchester County Fair Campaign Practices Committee in early October in favor of Cohen’s claim that Latimer’s campaign wrongly informed the media of his own complaint to the committee about Cohen’s campaign commercials he believed to be misleading.

Fifth Ave Guy:

The only choice is Bob Cohen. Latimer's had his chance & has proven himself to be a true tax & spend liberal who won't do anything to solve our problems.

I also have a problem with the teacher's union financially supporting Latimer but with that endorsement I'm not surprised he didn't vote on pension reform and voted against the tax cap.

Go Bob! Vote Bob!
