Life Time Fitness Sign Is On Harrison Board Agenda

HARRISON, N.Y. – Work has begun on the site that Life Time Fitness will occupy, and now the Harrison Town Board will hold a public hearing on a new monument sign on Gannett Drive.

The Journal News, whose parent company is Gannett Co. Inc., occupied the site for 39 years. The public hearing is to discuss a new monument sign and “related lighting, utilities and landscaping improvements located within the right-of-way of Gannett Drive,” the Town Board agenda says.

It is unknown, however, if the road’s name would change.

“That’s a very good question,” said Town Supervisor Ron Belmont. “I’m not going there. It might [change], but I don’t want to start that ball rolling until it rolls.”

The Town Board meeting is at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Municipal Building, 1 Heineman Place.

As for Life Time, with 105 facilities throughout North America, the Harrison branch will be one of the largest. It is expected to be completed by spring 2014. The two-story, 209,000-square-foot facility will have more than 400 pieces of state-of-the-art exercise equipment plus indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a spa, a children’s center, a cafe, a rock-climbing wall, and much more.

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino said at a press conference for the groundbreaking that the Life Time project would bring an estimated $100 million to the county’s economy in its first three years. Jason Thunstrom, Life Time's vice president for corporate communications, said it would provide 350 construction jobs over the next 15 months and more than 250 part-time and full-time jobs when it opens.

Membership to the fitness center will most likely cost $130 a month for an individual and “in the high 200s” for a family, Thunstrom said.
