WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Westchester County Democrats have voiced their support to raise the legal age to purchase cigarettes and other tobacco products to 19, according to LoHud.com.

Westchester legislators chose 19 in an effort to keep cigarettes out of high schools and to garner maximum support for the proposal. New York City and Suffolk county recently enacted laws that raised the legal age to purchase tobacco to 21, LoHud.com reported.

Here's an industry ignored reality..."Nicotine" is commonly a "Very Young Mind Developing Youths" 1st "GateWay Detrimental Drug".. easily hidden experience..that when after being harmlessly managed..leaves / leads them confident to claudestinly experiment into other dangerous "Habit Potential" physical / mental / behavioral socially shared product effect pleasures...such as...alchohol, cannabis, pharmaceuticals..."DEAL THEM OUT" !

When does a minor become an adult? 18? 19? 21? 26? (The last one has to do with new healthcare rules.) Hard to tell anymore. We do our society no favors by allowing someone to legally drive or marry at 16/17, not allowing them to smoke until 19, not drink until 21, yet enter into contracts, vote, and be eligible for military service at 18. Forget gambling; the charts are all over the place, even within the same state. Just look at how absurd this all is. So, c'mon 'adults'; start acting like one for a change. ONE threshold. Think we can handle that?

Hmmm. I thought the Scarsdale Board of Trustees had raised the age. Nope. Just another county story with a misleading headline.

The age to buy tobacco products should be raised to 21, same as alcohol. And the age for driving should be raised to 18.
