HARRISON, N.Y. – Democrat Nita Lowey coasted to a 13th term in Congress Tuesday, easily holding off challenges from Republican Joe Carvin and We The People candidate Frank Morganthaler in the race for the 17th Congressional District seat.

Lowey (D-Harrison) had 58,856 votes with 68 percent of the vote counted in Westchester County, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections.

Carvin picked up 29,864 votes and Morganthaler garnered 847.

Carvin congratulated Lowey on her win and said that, although he was disappointed, he would "do anything he can to help her."

The 75-year-old Lowey has served in Congress  for 24 years.

Carvin, running for the first time, is currently the Town of Rye Supervisor. The 57-year-old lives in Rye with his wife and two of his three children (the oldest lives and works in New York City).

Morganthaler, also a first-time candidate, is a Hawthorne resident and retired Lieutenant in the New York City Fire Department. He is currently a New York State licensed private investigator and emergency planning consultant.

The 17th District includes Rockland County, Yorktown, Peekskill, Cortlandt, Mount Kisco, New Castle, Ossining, Mount Pleasant, North Castle, Greenburgh, Harrison and portions of Rye.
