Update 2:20 a.m. MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- With 70 percent of districts reporting, Catherine Parker has a slight lead in the race for the District 5 County Legislature seat.
With 27 out of 55 districts reporting, Democrat Parker has 50 percent of the vote, Republican John Verni has 48 percent and Working Families Party candidate Thomas Murphy has 2 percent.
MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- With 25 percent of districts reporting, Catherine Parker led John Verni in the race for District 7 County Legislator, 53 percent to 45 percent.
District Seven includes Mamaroneck, Rye, Larchmont, Harrison and New Rochelle.
Catherine Parker, a Democrat, is from Rye. She has sat on the Rye City Council for six years and is a firm advocate of environmental issues, including flood mitigation and water quality. She owns a travel boutique in Rye called Parker's.
John Verni, Republican, is from Mamaroneck and previously lived in New Rochelle. Verni served as ADA to the Westchester District Attorney from 1991-97. He also was the president of Habitat For Humanity of Westchester from 1996-98. He currently is an attorney and partner at Verco Properties LLC, a family-owned real estate company.
The most prominent issues of this race were Sustainable Playland, and how to keep the Sound Shore safe from flooding and water quality disasters.
