HARRISON, N.Y. — The Harrison Daily Voice will head into the New Year by counting down, in no particular order, the Top 10 stories from 2012.

Harrison Mayor/Supervisor Ron Belmont was sworn in Jan. 1 after defeating incumbent Joan Walsh on Nov. 8, 2011. The former department of recreation supervisor said the time has flown by, but he has accomplished a lot.

“The budget passing and the master plan is going to go – we’re excited about the progress being made along Westchester Avenue,” he said. “The MTA project is moving along slowly, but it’s moving.”

He was glad to see the $55,919,315 budget for 2013 pass while staying under the New York State-mandated 2 percent tax levy cap. Belmont also mentioned the new DeCicco Family Market on Halstead Avenue, which he said, has been positive for the community.

When it comes to Harrison’s future, he believes it is headed in a positive direction and he is glad he ran for mayor.

“I think I’ve done a lot of good things this past year and hope to continue to do a lot of good things next year,” he said. “This has become a passion with me. I put everything I have into this job – my heart and soul. I like what I do and I’m excited to be here.”
