Lily Kernaghan, 13, and Megan Phelan, 14, are part of Swim 70, a Norwalk-based swim team that draws from many Fairfield County towns. The Swim 70 13-14 year old girls' relay teams broke each of the five state relay records this past weekend.

The record breaking started off with the 800 Free Relay, one they were not favored to win. Samantha Kim of Weston, Morgan Lenoce of Westport along with Kernghan and Phelan beat the top seed, Cheshire Seadogs, and grabbed the state record with a time of 7:46.33.

Head Coach Mark Sedlak said, "It was one of the most exciting races I've seen in my life. We were neck-and-neck the whole race until the last 50 yards. Then Megan Phelan took off and managed to hit the wall before the Seadogs did. Right then and there, I knew we were going to have a fantastic meet."

On Friday night, Phelan and Kernaghan were joined by Marissa Healy and Esme Hunter, both of Westport, and the swimmers crushed the 400 Free Relay state record time by almost four seconds with a time of 3:33.70. Saturday night, the record breaking and winning continued. Kernaghan along with Samantha Kim, Marissa Healy and Esme Hunter earned the 200 Medley Relay record and won by almost five seconds with a time of 1:47.17. At the end of the night, the 200 Free relay team of Kernaghan, Hunter, Healy and Phelan combined to go 1:37.96 coming in first once again and beating the state record by almost a half a second. Sunday night wrapped up the meet with the 400 Medley relay with Hunter, Kim, Healy and Kernaghan once again took the state record with a time of 3:54.46, beating the competition by a whopping 11 seconds.

This five for five sweep of state records was made that much sweeter when the teams learned on Tuesday that four of their relays were now in the top 20 in the country.
