Born in Lakewood, Ashley grew up and lived in Toms River at the time of her death, her obituary says.
Ashley graduated from Toms River North High School before attending Ocean County Vocational Technical School and Ocean County College, where she studied to become a Licensed Practical Nurse, her obituary and social media pages say.
Ashley was passionate about motherhood and the arts, and she was an active member of her sons’ soccer team and Boy Scout troop.
“She loved arts and crafts, there was nothing she couldn’t make or do,” reads her memorial. “Shaina loved being outdoors and will be surely missed by many.”
Ashley is survived by her father, James Gillen; her husband, Matthew Ashley; her children, Gavin, Chase, Ryan, and Andrea Ashley; her brother, James Gillen; as well as numerous extended family members and close friends, several of whom shared their grief on social media:
“Heaven gained a beautiful angel today,” writes Christine Stilton.
“She fought so hard to fight to be with her sweet boys…Rest in Peace Shaina. You will be missed.”
