Astonio was selected by the student body as the elected official in the annual assembly. Each year, the student council at the Harrison school, under the direction of co-advisers Joe Gottschalk and Thomasine Mastrantoni, invites a local political figure to address the students and answer questions pertaining to the area's current state of affairs.

Astorino answered questions ranging from important projects in the county such as the potential improvements to Playland Amusement Park in Rye, tax increases, the Common Core's educational impact on current students, as well as his own future political aspirations.

Past speakers to this yearly event have included County Legislator Bill Ryan, Harrison Mayor Ron Belmont, and U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey.
