HARRISON, N.Y. -- The award-winning Harrison High School marching band has several unique performances this month, starting with opening for Joan Jett this Saturday then playing at Yankee Stadium a week later.

The Saturday performance is part of a fundraising event at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester. The band opens for Joan Jett and the Blackhearts for The Really Big Show, a variety show to benefit the Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Family Services of Westchester.

Other performers include George Porter Jr. and Christina Bianco. For ticket information or more details, visit the Capital Theatre's website .

“This opportunity is an amazing chance to perform with world class performers in a classic, professional venue and to benefit kids in our Greater Westchester community,” said Charlie Briem, who along with Kevin Heathwood are co-directors of the Harrison High School Marching Band.

Then, on Nov. 12, the band will be playing in the stands with the Fordham University pep band when Fordham plays Holy Cross at Yankee Stadium. The game starts at 3 p.m. and will be nationally televised on CBS.

Also this month, the band performs during the West Harrison Veterans Day parade Nov. 11 and at the UBS Parade Spectacular Nov. 20 in Stamford, Conn., one of the largest balloon parades in the country.

“The month of November is providing an amazing series of opportunities for our students,” Briem said.
