HARRISON, N.Y. -- Harrison High School Business Education students excelled at the DECA (Distributive Education Club of America) Regional Championships at Rockland Community College on Friday, Jan. 10.
This is the second year the school has participated in DECA competitions, under the leadership of HHS Business Education teachers Claudia Gray and Joe Santos.
Of the 33 students that participated in the regional competition, 15 students took first place, six took second place, eight took third and two took fourth. HHS won first place in over one third of the competitive events at the conference.
Events included case studies with role plays judged by business teachers and local business leaders, mock job interviews and demonstration sales events.
All students that placed at the Regionals are now qualified to attend the DECA New York State Conference in Rochester, N.Y., in March.
Students that place in the top four in national events at the state conference then qualify to compete at the DECA International Career Development Conference Competition in Atlanta, Ga. in April.
“We are very proud of our hardworking business education students. We look forward to the state competition in March,” said Claudia Gray, HHS Business Education teacher in a release.
